WEST PALM BEACH — This marked the fifth year of the Palm Beach County School District’s Battle of the Books, as 1,798 students on 447 teams contended.
After reading from a prescribed list of 15 books chosen by educators around the state, teams at 55 different schools raced the clock in the only completely online Battle of the Books competition in Florida.
The object was to answer as many questions correctly as possible within the 20-minute time allowed. The two highest scoring teams at each level captured a seat at the Feb. 21 Grand Battle of the Book competition taped before a live studio audience at The Education Network.
Each Grand Battle Team arrived at the TV studios with a creative team name and matching T-shirts they had designed especially for the event. One team even arrived wearing “lucky socks.”
The Grand Champions are The Ninja Wallabies, Limestone Creek Elementary; The Fellowship of the Books, Roosevelt Middle School and The Jaguars, Dreyfoos School of the Arts.
