The Hospitality Institute at Miami Dade College will host a four-day Hospitality Job Readiness Training Program and Job Fair on Oct. 4-7 at the Greater Bethel A.M.E Church in downtown Miami.
There is no cost for attending the event, which is open to residents of downtown Miami, Overtown, Liberty City and surrounding areas.
The college said it is sponsoring the event as part of its commitment to provide hospitality and service skills training and job search resources to the residents of Miami’s inner city neighborhoods.
The training sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, Wednesday, Oct. 5, and Thursday, Oct. 6, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7.
Experts from the hospitality industry, MDC faculty, and motivational speakers will lead the training
sessions and cover topics such as resume writing, interviewing techniques, customer service, dining etiquette, professional attire, basic computer skills, food safety training and food handler certification.
The training program will end on Friday, Oct. 7, with an awards ceremony and a job fair exclusive to Hospitality Institute registrants. The job fair will feature employers from the hospitality, service and other industries and will be open only to participants who have completed all three days of training; walk-ins will not be admitted. Participants from this program, as well as alumni from previous Hospitality Institute programs, will have an opportunity to interview with the featured employers. Staff from the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, MDC and the Hospitality Institute will also be available to assist with information on educational opportunities, including GED certification, MDC admissions and enrollment, college financial aid, and potential scholarships from the Black Hospitality Initiative of Greater Miami.
Also, current participants and alumni of the Hospitality Institute will be able to attend MDC’s “27th Employment Week Job Fair” at the Wolfson Campus from
9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12,
The college established the institute in January 2008 and it operates under the umbrella of the International Hospitality Center. The
training and job-readiness programs are held four times a year. The Institute is currently funded by the city of Miami Community Redevelopment Agencies, Southeast Overtown/Park West, and Omni.
