Work on a $6.5 million makeover at Hadley Park that will include a new youth center is set to begin this month. The new center at the park, located at NW 50th Street and NW 12th Avenue, will house an indoor basketball court; exercise, locker and meeting rooms; classrooms and a computer room; along with office and storage spaces.

Sandra Vega, the renovation’s project manager said the new youth center is mainly a sports complex, with some additional space for community, cultural and sporting events.

“We believe the new facility will help expand the community center’s maximum capacity of use,” said Vega.

The Charles Hadley Park Community Center already hosts a broad range of programs, including after-school care, summer camp, dance classes and the Seniors on the Move program.

The renovation plans have been in development for two-and-a-half years. Construction is due to begin on May 12, with completion set for August 2015. Miami City Commissioner Keon Hardemon sponsored the project.
