Harry Sargeant III signed an affidavit on Thursday that states former Gov. Charlie Crist and Crist's top adviser, George LeMieux, agreed in late 2008 that Greer should take over fundraising duties for the Republican Party of Florida and get paid extra.

Greer was arrested in 2010 on charges that he steered party money to a shell company. His trial starts later this year.

Sargeant, who stepped down from his post in 2009, is a South Florida businessman whose own dealings have come under fire.

Crist did not return a phone call seeking comment.

A spokesman for LeMieux said he did not participate in, nor was he was aware of any discussions about paying Greer.
