TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Speaker Dean Cannon has ordered a Florida House panel to investigate complaints about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill claims process.
The Winter Park Republican issued the directive in a letter Thursday to Economic Affairs Committee Chairwoman Dorothy Hukill, a Port Orange Republican.
Hukill said she anticipates inviting claims administrator Kenneth Feinberg to appear before the panel.
Cannon wrote that he's been told of “numerous breakdowns and inconsistencies within the claims process.''
Feinberg earlier this week heard some of those complaints first-hand during two-day visit to coastal Mississippi and Louisiana.
A shrimper in Lafitte, La., dropped to his knees and begged Feinberg for money to pay household bills.
