PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) _ Charlotte County authorities are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy who they say found an unsecured gun and shot himself.
A sheriff's office report says deputies found the boy in his Port Charlotte home and medical rescue units transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The report says the boy died from the gunshot wound early Sunday morning.
Authorities have gathered at the home for the investigation. Detectives say the boy found the unsecured firearm and shot himself.
Detectives have interviewed the child's parents and no charges have been filed at this time pending the outcome of the investigation.
