Icons and Legends Concert: The African Heritage Cultural Center, 6161 N.W. 22nd Ave. in Miami, is hosting an "Icons and Legends" concert. The two-hour showcase will feature up-and-coming neo-soul artist Emotion and four other local artists. The artists will cover classic hits from Michael Jackson, Nat King Cole, Luther Vandross, the O'Jays, Elton John and Al Green. From noon to 6 p.m., take advantage of the free business and volunteer seminars, such as "how to market yourself in a tough job market." Tommy Davidson: Ah, remember the days when Def Jam was synonymous with cutting-edge comedy, and when comedians allowed on showcase comedy hours were actually funny? Comedian Tommy Davidson came up in that hilarious era, and even back then managed to shine with comedy specials and stints on the hit comedy show, "In Living Color." Now, Davidson is coming to the Miami Improv, 3390 Mary St., Suite 182 in Miami. The comedian will perform until Sunday, Sept. 13. Tickets are $26. The Songwriter's Showcase brings local, national and international singer/songwriters together in South Florida to perform songs from the past, the present and possibly even future hits. The showcase will take place in the intimate setting of the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 S.W. Fifth Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. There will also be an open-mic session for those who want to try out their musical chops in front of an audience. The Urban League of Broward County will host its annual Equal Opportunity Day "Stompin at the Savoy" Red Gala. The event will honor exemplary individuals for their outstanding service to the South Florida community.
