Florida Memorial University Annual Musical Weekend: Florida Memorial University will celebrate its annual Musical Weekend featuring the talents of the Ambassador Chorale, South Florida Community Chorale, and the Florida Memorial University Steel Ensemble, Concert and Jazz Band. MDC Chamber of Commerce Annual Holiday Gala: The Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce will host its 4th Annual Holiday Gala, “Progress: The New Currency,” at the Hyatt Regency, 400 S.E. Second Avenue in downtown Miami. A cocktail reception will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner and an award ceremony following at 7:30 p.m. Among the festivities, the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce will honor famed attorney and community activist Larry R. Handfield; the president of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, Bill Talbert; and former Dade Community Foundation president Ruth Shack. Entertainment will be provided by the Leesa Richards band, a nine-piece, top-40 musical ensemble led by popular chanteuse Leesa Richards. Tickets are $150 each. The Chocolate Nutcracker: The Ashanti Cultural Arts Inc. presents The Chocolate Nutcracker at the Broward County Main Library, 100 South Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. This adaptation of the holiday classic is set in the home of a black family, where Lea takes a magical journey to her spectacular roots in Africa. The performances highlight the Kwanzaa celebration, African dancers and drummers, the Chinese Dragon, belly dancers and much, much more.
