shrek_girl.jpgCatch SHREK the Musical with a star-studded cast of seasoned performers and locals at the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theatre through July 20. SHREK The Musical brings to life the heartwarming story of a young Ogre’s journey to save a princess and find true love. The summer production takes on a new dynamic with young actors, singers and dancers being joined by adults, including former NBC6 Anchor Julia Yarbough, and the return of Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theatre alumni lending their expertise and talent to the stage. Joining the cast are two stand-out performers who honed their crafts growing up in the FLCT and now continue their education and careers performing and working in major US theatre markets.

One is Dillard School of the Arts graduate, Nayomi Braaf, who returns to the FLCT as the voice of The Dragon and The Fairy Godmother in SHREK. Singing since the age of three, Braaf, is now a junior at the University of Hartt School in Connecticut. It was through professional and financial assistance from the FLCT which allowed Braff to attend talent auditions in New York for selection to Hartt.

The other is St. Thomas Aquinas High School graduate Ryan Carr, who makes a cameo performance as Lord Farquaad.

A teen performer with FLCT for several years, Carr graduated with a BFA from the North Carolina School of the Arts in 2007, then went on to forge an acting and stunt-training career in the movie capital of the world, Hollywood, California.

The cast, including Braaf and Carr, are Spencer Perdeck as Shrek; Hannah Ellowtiz as Princess Fiona; and Juan Giordano Aranguran as Donkey.

The FLCT is located inside the Galleria Mall, 2414 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.

SHREK The Musical runs through July 20. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. For tickets, go to flct.org or call 954-763-6882.
