MIAMI — The African Diaspora Dance and Drum Festival of Florida, which embraces the notion that music is a universal form of expression, is gearing up for a weekend of artistic activities, including performances, workshops and classes.

Organizers say the festival is a key cultural and educational experience in traditional African dance and drumming for anyone interested in the arts. The classes are designed and structured for the novice, intermediate, and experienced dancers or drummers. The festival will be held Sept. 5 to 7 at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, 212 NE 59th Terr., and iTech@Thomas A. Edison Educational Center, 6101 NW Second Ave.

Event sponsor Delou Africa Inc. has brought some of the most renowned national and international dancers and drummers to South Florida for the festival five years running. This year they have curated a festival that includes some of the biggest talents from the African Diaspora including; Senegal, Cuba, Haiti, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire and Mali.

The highlight of the festival is a concert extravaganza at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at the Edison Educational Center, 6101 NW Second Ave. Admission is $20. Tickets can be purchased at http://adddff.delouafrica.org/

The Children’s Village will also be held at iTech@Thomas A. Edison Educational Center on Saturday and Sunday. It will feature free dance, drum and children’s martial arts workshops. There will also be face painting plus arts and crafts.

A free Better Living Community Symposium will take place 9 a.m. Saturday at iTech@Thomas A. Edison Educational Center. The topic is Health and Nutrition: You Are What You Eat.

On-site registration hours and ticket prices are as follows:

Friday, 4-7 p.m. at the cultural center

Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Tech

Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. @ iTech
