Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers recently showered guests who are homeless and in need with food, special gifts, giveaways, and birthday cake at their annual Bombastic Birthday Party. The event serves as a celebration of the birthdays of all those who have had a birthday forgotten or gone unnoticed due to homelessness or other stressful life-situations.
Each of the three Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers campuses celebrated the Bombastic Birthday Party with their own twist. Miami Rescue Mission volunteers and staff were joined by the Miami Marlins to help make it a special day for all their guests. Billy the Marlin and Marlins Ayudan all came out to help serve food, give away gifts, and join in the birthday fun.
In Hollywood, guests celebrated their birthdays Chick-Fil-A style. The celebration was catered by Chick-Fil-A who also provided cake, donated gifts were given away, and birthday cards made by Girl Scouts troop 10141 were given to each person in attendance.
On the Pompano campus, a birthday dinner was served in the cafeteria decorated by Broward College ARK Club with decorations made by Kids Care Club – Hands On Broward. The Italian style meal was sponsored by W Hotels Ft. Lauderdale along with a DJ, gifts, candy, birthday cake, and ice cream. Residents of each center as well as guests from the streets were welcomed in for the Bombastic Birthday Party celebrations.
Marilyn Brummitt, director of development for the centers, praised the celebrations. “When someone is homeless or in a vulnerable situation, celebrating their birthday is not a priority,” she said.
“ We try to bring people who are in need together and let them celebrate their day at a special party created just for them. No matter when their birthday is, they were able to celebrate their special day with us at our Bombastic Birthday Party. This is just another way to show homeless men and women that they are not forgotten and they can receive help to get off the streets.”
Along with the celebration itself, Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers reached out to individuals who were homeless, informing and letting people sign up for the life-changing program the organization offers. Through this program, individuals receive food, clothing, education, job skill training, spiritual guidance, and more all with the goal of helping people become independent, productive, and successful members of the community.
