Pembroke Park, Fla. – The Broward Education Foundation joined forces with Florida Power & Light Company during its Power to Care volunteer week, where volunteers read a book to students and helped beautify the front entrance area at Watkins Elementary School in Pembroke Park. Guest volunteers read the book “Woosh” to 2nd through 5th grade students and gave each child a copy of the book to take home. In the book, readers virtually meet author Lonnie Johnson, the innovative engineer who unexpectedly invented one of the most popular toys of all time – the Super Soaker. Lonnie Johnson holds more than 100 patents, with more than 20 pending, and is the author of several publications on spacecraft power systems.
