Transportation job fair scheduled for Belle Glade

WEST PALM BEACH — The School District of Palm Beach County’s Transportation Services Department is bringing a job fair to Belle Glade on Friday.

Transportation department officials are hiring drivers to transport approximately 58,000 students each day to Palm Beach County schools. The job fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Area 3 office (the old West Tech campus), 2625 NW 16th St., Belle Glade. Applicants must be a safe, licensed driver for five years; have an excellent driving record; pass a state physical and bus driver training course; communicate effectively in English; and enjoy working with students.

The district also offers free commercial driving license training for those who qualify.

Story of black WWII troops airs at research library

FORT LAUDERDALE — The 2000 documentary The Invisible Soldiers: Unheard Voices will be screened 3:30 p.m. March 21 at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), 2650 Sistrunk Blvd.

The Invisible Soldiers tells the story of African-American service in World War II. Historian Doris Kearns says the film gives needed balance to the history of World War II that is lacking in popular media and education materials.

More than one million African-American men and women in uniform gave their loyalty, blood and lives to protect a country that denied them the very freedoms for which they were fighting. The film features interviews with service members who speak candidly of their accomplishments under conditions of racism. The Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame named the film winner for best documentary.

Credit union teaches how to spot scams

BROWARD COUNTY — Helping customers recognize common scams and fraud tactics to keep their financial transactions secure, BrightStar Credit Union’s will host free financial and investment seminars titled Fraud in Florida — Keeping Your Money Safe.

The seminars will be held 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the following dates at three different BrightStar Credit Union locations in Broward: March 24 at the Margate branch, 3175 North State Rd. 7; March 25 at the Davie location, 2400 Davie Road; and March 31 in Pompano Beach, 1600 South Federal Highway.
