TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Health officials say Kansas has its first case of West Nile virus for 2015.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said in a release Wednesday that an adult from Lincoln County has tested positive for the virus, which can be spread to people from infected mosquitoes but is not contagious from person to person.

The department says symptoms can range from headaches and fever to swelling of the brain and in rare cases, death.
