ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ Environmental groups in New York say their top legislative priorities this year would restrict sales of shampoo, toothpaste and other grooming products containing microbeads and children’s toys containing arsenic, mercury, lead and other toxic substances.

Both measures have passed the Democrat-controlled Assembly.

The bill to ban New York sales in 2018 of toys and various other children’s products containing certain chemicals now lists 35 sponsors in the Republican-controlled Senate.

That’s a majority of state senators.

The bill to ban New York sales in 2016 of personal cosmetics containing tiny plastic beads as abrasives so far lists 27 Senate sponsors, five short of a majority.
