Opa-locka, Fla. – If you’re looking to buy a new home but need help understanding what to do, the Opa-locka Community Development Corporation is offering free homebuyer education workshops designed to guide first-time homebuyers step by step through the home buying process. One-on-one counseling with an OLCDC certified Housing Counselor is also available.

During each eight-hour homebuyer education workshop, attendees will hear presentations from industry professionals—lenders, realtors, home inspectors, closing agents, attorneys, etc.—on a variety of related topics, including preparing for homeownership, applying for available grant funds, obtaining a mortgage, homeowners’ insurance and credit, budgeting and identity theft.

At the end of the workshop, participants will receive contact information for the OLCDC housing counseling staff and the workshop presenters and may contact these professionals if they have questions regarding their home buying process.

Participants will receive a Homebuyer Education Course certificate of completion that is required by developers and subsidy programs. Participants must bring a valid photo I.D., proof of income (i.e., 2011 W-2, 2 pay stubs, benefits letter) and a copy of a pre-qualification letter to receive a certificate.

The workshops will take place at 780 Fisherman Street in Opa-Locka.
