MADISON, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say two people are dead following a small plane crash in the Florida Panhandle.
The Tallahassee Democrat reports that the RV-4, two-person plane crashed Thursday night in Madison County.
Sheriff Ben Stewart says the pilot, 32-year-old William Swiggart, and his passenger, 18-year-old Maitland Harvey, were traveling from Ocala to Tallahassee.
Searchers couldn’t find the wreckage Thursday night, but the plane was spotted by a Leon County Sheriff’s Office helicopter the next morning in a heavily wooded area.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are still investigating the crash’s cause, but officials say dreary weather conditions and poor visibility could have been a factor.
