Riviera Beach – Even before Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump faced off in Tuesday night’s president debate, an electric sign was flashing “LET’S DO SOMETHING,” “COME ON IN, NOW OPEN,” and other messages in support of the Kamala Harris / Tim Walz campaign, at 1601 President Barack Obama Highway in Riviera Beach. It is one of myriad such local offices opening around the state in the effort to win Florida in the presidential election, and support other Democratic candidates, on Nov. 6. “You can come by anytime to sign up,” said Bishop Thomas Masters, the city’s former mayor. “We have a desk, we have a phone for you,” Masters said, adding, “We gonna win!” The Harris for President campaign stated following the debate: “Tonight, Vice President Harris was optimistic, strong, and presidential as she offered her vision for a New Way Forward for all Americans. Meanwhile, Donald Trump was angry, weak and focused on himself.” The post-debate punditry almost universally agreed. “Look, make no mistake about it, Trump had a bad night,” said Fox News’ Brit Hume. “He rose to the bait repeatedly when she baited him, something I am sure his advisors had begged him not to do … And we heard so many of the old grievances that we’d long thought Trump had learned were not winners politically."
