The Democrat Convention is completed and on Thursday Aug. 22 there were 29 million Americans, who listened and watched Vice President Kamala Harris give her acceptance speech and accept her nomination as president of the United States. The entire speech was built around freedom, opportunity, dignity, fairness, compassion, and where there is unity, there is strength.

At the beginning and through her entire speech, Harris referred to her mother and the life training she received from her mother, who was a trailblazer. Her mother was a scientist and was always turning her enthusiasm into action. Harris was taught to be fearless, and her extended family was built on love.

As a MacDonald’s employee, Harris learned how to be a team member, and eventually a team leader. Going to Howard University was something special for Black people, because it taught by knowing by showing the greatness of Black education and its professors.

Harris attended the University of California College of Law, and began her law career in the office of the district attorney of Alameda County. She was elected DA of San Francisco in 2003, and then the attorney general of California in 2010, and reelected in 2014. In 2016 Harris was elected to the US Senate, and advocated for stricter gun control laws, the Dream Act, and healthcare and taxation reforms.

In 2019, Harris ran for Democratic presidential nomination, but withdrew from the race and was selected as President Joe Biden’s running mate. Harris and Biden were inaugurated on Jan.20, 2021. Vice-President Harris played crucial roles in breaking ties to help pass bills, such as the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 stimulus package, and the Inflation Reduction Act.

It is very easy to say that the vice president does very little, but Harris was the difference on bills being passed. She operated as a partner to President Biden, helped make every core decision, and was the last person to leave every meeting. As the vice president, Harris broke 13 ties in one year, the most in the history of America. At this point Harris has broken 32 vote ties, and helped get millions of dollars to HBCU’s with the support of President Biden.

President Biden has trained Vice President Harris to be a leader who cares for all Americans, and it does not matter if you are a Democrat, a Republican, an Independent, or the color of your skin. Harris loves America, and she is a fighter for the people.

Harris believes that we are not going back, and America is going forward.

Harris has been a champion for reproductive freedom, from her time as California attorney general, to U.S. senator, and now as vice president. There are some issues that Harris agrees with Biden, but there will be new ideas, and an opportunity economy to chart a new path.

She believes that she can end housing shortages, lower gun violence, give more Americans the freedom to vote, improve border control, and give middle class a tax saving. Biden and Harris administration has taken a historic action to make life-saving medication more affordable. The Biden administration reached an agreement with drug makers to lower prices on the 10 costliest prescriptions drugs under Medicare.

Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted the nomination to become the next president of the United States. As Americans write the next great story of our democracy, in unity there is strength.
