henry_fernadez.jpgSUNRISE — The Faith Center Ministries, in collaboration with Miami VA Healthcare System and the Broward County VA Outpatient Clinic, will hold a Memorial Day Veteran Appreciation Service on Sunday.

All South Florida veterans and their families are being invited to the service scheduled to be held at the church located in the former Sunrise Musical Theatre site.

Bishop Henry Fernandez and Pastor Carol Fernandez started the church in 1991 and it currently boasts more than 10,000 members.

The Broward County VA Outpatient Clinic was opened in September 2008 and serves more than 150,000 veterans living in Broward County, southern Palm Beach County and northern Miami-Dade County.  The Broward County Veterans Council, led by WW ll Navy veteran Bill Kling, brought the various organizations together in the partnership that is sponsoring the appreciation event.

Bishop Fernandez and Dr. Philip Greenberg, chief medical officer of the Broward County VA Outpatient Clinic, share the same mission, according to a statement from the church. It is "to help heal hurting people.”

Fernandez, described as a progressive visionary leader, embraces the veteran community as a good neighbor and patriot.

The VA medical community and the Broward clinic have been on the forefront of community outreach educating and empowering organizations, schools and law enforcement agencies on how to welcome home returning veterans and assist them and their families with readjustment.

The statement said the church and the partner organizations have lined up more than 20 service providers for veterans, their families and the public to participate in a resource exposition immediately after the service.

Different groups of service providers will be present, with quick on-site registration that will speed up getting help from the VA.

The Memorial Day Veteran Appreciation Service will take place at 10 a.m., Sunday, May 29, at The Faith Center Ministries, 5555 NW 95th Ave.,  Sunrise, next-door to the Broward County VA Outpatient Clinic.
