MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Legacy South Florida magazines has selected two Florida Memorial University alumnae, Stephanie Pierre and Latoya Porter, among its 2018 class of Top Black Educators. The recipients were formally honored with their pictures published in Legacy’s Education issue and showcased during a recent reception.

“The FMU family applauds Ms. Pierre’s and Ms. Porter’s accomplishments. Having these educators recognized with this prestigious honor is proof that FMU prepares its students to reach any desired professional ambition and compete in the global marketplace,” said FMU Interim President Jaffus Hardrick. “I am proud our Lions are being highlighted for their years of hard work and dedication to training tomorrow’s leaders.”

Both women graduated from FMU’s School of Education. Pierre, an educator with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, earned her B.S. in Elementary Education/ESOL; and an M.Ed. in Reading/ESOL from FMU. She also serves on the university’s adjunct faculty. Porter, a 2010 FMU graduate and reading coach with M-DCPS, earned her B.S. in Elementary Education/ESOL; an M.Ed. in Elementary Education; and an M.S. in Reading/ESOL from FMU. She is currently pursuing an education doctorate at a local university
