Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement on his General Election victory: “This evening, I am honored and humbled to have been re-elected by the people of Florida’s 20th Congressional district to the U.S. House of Representatives. I thank all of my supporters, friends, and volunteers who once again put their trust in me to represent them in Congress.

“Our nation faces many challenges, and this year’s national election was one of the most vitriolic and divisive in recent memory. We should come together, right now, in order to refocus our attention to what really matters: the needs of everyday Americans, many of whom are still struggling to make ends meet. We must work together to end partisanship. “I reaffirm a pledge tonight: I will work with anyone in Congress, Republican, Democrat, or otherwise, as long as we can work together in good faith to address the issues that need addressing.

“I am more determined than ever before to fight to protect the best interests of South Florida, and I look forward to serving my constituents for years to come. “I am eternally grateful to have been given this opportunity once again. I won’t let you down.”
