ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. – A West Feliciana Parish sheriff’s deputy has been arrested on a simple assault charge.

Deputy Shane Lofton surrendered on Wednesday. The simple assault charge stems from an unrelated altercation Lofton had in Avoyelles Parish, where he allegedly threatened to kill another off-duty deputy.

Lofton also was recently accused of using racial slurs against black people during a traffic stop last week.

Idia Anderson and her sister Barbara says a relative was trying to jump start their car when Lofton pulled up.

He turned on his blue lights and said “get out, I need registration and driver’s license,” Barbara Anderson recalled.

The women filed a complaint accusing Lofton of saying, “I don’t have time for this because all of you are a bunch of stupid bi*** a** nigg***.”

After being arrested, Lofton was in jail for 20 minutes before being released on $5,000 bond.
