The Inner City Children’s Touring Dance Company will present its annual recital at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at the Joseph Caleb Center, 5400 NW 22nd Ave.
The program will include Afro-Caribbean, modern and jazz dance, ballet and a dance tribute to jazz divas Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Sarah Vaughan.
A highlight will be the “Signature Dancing Daddies,” 14 girls will dance with their fathers to Natalie Cole’s duet of “Unforgettable” with her father, the late Nat King Cole.
“Each dance is very special and unique and has different things to offer to the audience,” said Florene Litthcut Nichols, founder and director of the company
The recital will also feature performances by Momentum Dance Company, Kids and Play and Artz -N- the Hood.
Established in 1980, the company uses dance to introduce children and young adults in Liberty City to the arts and performance.
Among its goals is to build members’ self-esteem and to preserve African-American culture and traditional dance styles, as well as teaching ballet, jazz, tap, modern, conga, and musical theatre.
