SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) _ Ryan Johnson defeated Kory Roberts 3 and 1 in the championship match to win the Michigan Amateur on Friday at Plum Hollow Country Club.

Johnson, a 30-year-old Novi resident, beat 17-year-old Austin Jenner in the semifinals, while Roberts defeated Brett Quitiquit.

The 22-year-old Roberts, of Battle Creek, is a golfer at Northwood University.

Johnson took a 2-hole lead in the final match with par saves on Nos. 12 and 14, and he won the 17th hole with another par to close out the match.
