MIAMI — Pi Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority joined with Pearls of HOPE Foundation Inc., to host its annual Debutante Cotillion on June 6, with the theme, “Phenomenal Princesses: the Epitome of Beauty and Elegance.” The lavish and upscale venue provided dinner and open bar amidst an ambiance of royal glitz and glamour to 200 family members and friends.
Five college-bound ladies made their debut into society. Kirsten Cherry and Jasmin Hodge (Coral Reef Senior High School) will both attend University of Florida. Brittany Lys (Robert Morgan Educational Center) will attend University of Central Florida. Quatashia Witherspoon (Killian Senior High School) will attend North Carolina Central University and Aliah Ervin (Robert Morgan Education Center) is still undecided.
Following personal introductions, the debs recited a group rendition of Phenomenal Woman and each displayed her individual talent of poetry, dance or song.
Escorted by Fabrice Romain, Kerel Patman, Michael Campbell, Therron Edwards and Dante King with Usher Akelo Roberts, the Debs joined their mothers for the traditional Rose Ceremony as vocalist Markcus Blair bellowed Wind Beneath My Wings. The finale was La Grande Valse featuring the Debs dancing with escorts and fathers.
Event Chairman Alexandria Holloway, PhD. shared that the cotillion is a personal investment for the teens and their parents, and a rewarding service for the organization. Co-Chairman Keandra Cherry, who was a debutante in 2009, is a stellar example of the Cotillion’s success in guiding young ladies into the next chapter of their journey.
President Teresa Brown stated the chapter gave over $5,000 in scholarships.
