ELIOT, Maine (AP) _ Officials say three of five water samples tested at a Maine middle school contained elevated levels of E. coli.
The Portsmouth Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1IAhjOB ) staff members and students at Marshwood Middle School in Eliot have been told not to drink the water until further notice.
Principal John Caverly says the water is suitable for students and staff to use the bathroom and wash their hands.
Food service workers have been boiling any water used for cooking. More than 2,000 bottles of drinking water have been delivered to the school.
School officials began the process of flushing the well water on Sunday as well as installing a chlorine system that will help kill bacteria found in the water.
Caverly hopes the water will be suitable to drink by Monday.
