MIAMI — The 48 Hour Film Project, the largest filmmaking competition in the world, is in South Florida for a wild weekend during which teams will make a short movie from scratch — writing, shooting and editing — in only 48 hours.
On Friday, May 10 teams are assigned character, prop, dialogue and genre to include in their movies that must be complete by Sunday, May 12.
Each completed film is guaranteed a screening at The Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center in the following week. In addition to a $5,000 cash grand prize for the overall world winner, winners receive an invitation to Filmapalooza, the year-end competition for the 48 Hour Film Project, where more than 110 films from around the world, representing the Best 48 Hour Film from each of their respective cities, are screened. In addition, Films Over Miami submissions must be received by May 10 for the showcase highlighting Miami’s emerging filmmakers, set for Sunday, June 23 at the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach during the 17th annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF), June 19 – 23.
