MIAMI, Fla. – Miami-Dade County School Board member Dr. Steve Gallon III brought greetings and an inspirational message to male students at the North Region 5000 Role Models Tie Tying Ceremony, at North Miami Senior High School, Oct. 24.

The auditorium was filled to capacity with Role Models, mentors, parents, community members, and dignitaries.

The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project is a dropout prevention, mentoring program committed to closing the minority male achievement (access) gap by guiding minority male students along a carefully charted path through grades K-12 and college or ensuring the attainment of other postsecondary credentials, and increasing their employability in higher wage, high skills jobs within high demand industries.

“Remember, young men. I’m here to tell you…that no matter what some think about being educated, it’s cool to be smart,” Gallon said prompting thunderous applause.

Gallon also gave the young men seven keys to success in school and in life. He said he continues to be honored to inspire the youth and offer words of encouragement, guidance and experience.
