A woman was issued a traffic citation for failing to inform an officer that she was HIV positive.
David Lacey, an officer with the Dearborn Police Department in Michigan pulled over Shalandra Jones for a traffic stop last month. He searched her purse, where he found a bottle of prescription pills.
When he asked her what they were for, she told him she was HIV positive. Lacey became upset and then issued her a ticket for not volunteering her medical condition.
Jones has filed a complaint with the department about the incident, which was captured on the officer’s dash mounted camera. The footage has also been posted on YouTube.
In a interview with a local television Jones said, “It took me a long time to be able to come outside. It took a long for me to stand up for myself.”
