Britnie Allen, a student at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson campus, received the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s “Technology Student of the Year” award during the business group’s annual Technology Leaders of the Year Awards
Luncheon at Jungle Island on April 15.
Allen is a sophomore majoring in Computer Information Systems, with hopes of working in a large information technology corporation. She is active in the college’s Earth Ethics Institute and the Student Government Association and she helps raise funds to benefit Haiti.
Allen graduated as valedictorian from Miami Central High School in north central Miami-Dade, where she was enrolled in the Academy of Information Technology magnet program. Her involvement in the program sparked her interest in IT.
She joined the ITWomen organization, which nominated her for the chamber’s award, and she also became the president of the IT Girls Club.
The Technology Student award was presented by Compuquip Technologies.
