CHICAGO (AP) _ The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has filed a lawsuit alleging a Chicago couple was racially discriminated against while trying to buy a South Side home.
The lawsuit filed Monday names home owners Daniel and Adrienne Sabbia, who are white, and real estate agent Jeffrey Lowe. Also named were the Lowe Group Chicago Inc. and Midwest Realty Ventures, LLC., doing business as Prudential Rubloff Properties.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Chicago radio personality and comedian George Willborn and his wife, Peyten, contends the African-American couple were discriminated against when the home's owners backed out of a verbal agreement to sell it.
The Chicago Tribune reports the Willborns accepted a $1.7 million counteroffer from the Sabbias.
Telephone calls to the Sabbias, and attorneys for Lowe and Rubloff for comment were not returned.
