The March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Selection Committee used formalized criteria to select nurses from various practice areas throughout Miami-Dade County who have shown exceptional work in the field of nursing.

Under Toomer’s leadership, the Satellite Schools Initiative was created to deal with the number of schools lacking health services. As a result, 146 additional schools received health services and students with chronic health conditions were identified and assessed.

Toomer also chairs the Public Health Nursing Council.
