Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate Pastoral Appreciation Month in October.  The services are being hosted by Pastor Jeremy H. Upton and first lady Brianna Upton.

All activities will be held at the church, 10701 SW 184th St. in Perrine, in Miami-Dade County.

Upton wants to make sure all church initiatives reflect the new Sweet Home motto, “Building the House, Advancing the Kingdom.”  So, for Pastoral Appreciation Month, Upton says, the activities will be less about him, and more about honoring good church leadership.

"What we're celebrating is a church family that has come together to make a difference in our community. This is about honoring those leaders who have supported a vision for Kingdom-building," he said.

The observance will begin at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5, celebrating both the pastoral and ministerial staff leadership. The guest speaker will be Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer, senior pastor-teacher at Faithful Central Bible Church in Inglewood, Calif. He heads a congregation of some 13,000 and has written several books.

The celebration will continue at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7, with the “Pastor and People Picnic,” an old fashioned family cook-out on the Sweet Home grounds. The church is inviting the community to come out and bring lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets.

Upton will be honored at the 7:30 and 11 a.m. services Sunday, Oct. 9. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Denny D. Davis, pastor of St. John Baptist Church in Texas. Under his guidance, the church has expanded to multiple locations in Grand Prairie and Southlake. St. John serves 15,000 members and offers four Sunday worship services and three bible studies each week.

The celebration will continue the remaining Sundays in October when Sweet Home’s ministerial leaders will be honored.
