FORT LAUDERDALE — There’s a new pulse of social activity happening on the Sistrunk Corridor. It’s called 5:01 Fridays — an after hours business social coming up next on Aug. 30 from 5:01 – 10 p.m. at 904 N.W. Sistrunk Blvd.
The Sistrunk corridor, also deemed Midtown, is a place of continual transition. It’s no secret given the enhancements along the thoroughfare: paved sidewalks and medians, benches, onside parking after five and the modern retro-looking street lamps that add a whole new look.
It’s becoming a destination with the help of popular events put on by the city such as the recent SummerFest that featured R&B Balladeer Legend Howard Hewitt earlier this month, and Light Up Sistrunk during the holidays. There also has been a gathering during the week at the Midtown Commerce Center Building.
Now there is 5:01 Fridays, a social event taking place once a month, first started in June. It features valet parking, live entertainment, gourmet food trucks and others surprises — this month welcoming the South Florida Black Professionals Network, and featuring Big Brooklyn Red & Melissa Moonchild Stokes for live entertainment.
The purpose of the new “Midtown Collaborative” is to spur investment in the community.
