Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said on Monday that JLF University and three other schools owned by Joseph and Aline LaFortune also have agreed to pay $67,000 in civil penalties.

The settlement approved Friday by a judge in Fort Lauderdale prohibits the schools from misrepresenting qualifications and programs.

Students paid between $7,000 and $15,000 to enroll only to learn they would not be eligible for licensure in Florida because the JLF nursing program taught in Miami and Jamaica was not approved by the state.

They then allegedly were told they could switch to one of the other LaFortune-owned schools for an additional $7,000.
