MIAMI — The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and The Peter London Global Dance Company, Inc. (PLGDC), Miami’s newest multicultural dance troupe presebnted Spring Nights at the Arsht Center in the intimate Carnival Studio Theater.
London’s vision was given a boost when his company received the 2011 Knight Arts Challenge grant award from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
“I cannot begin to express how grateful I am to the Arsht Center staff for inviting my company to become a 2013 Arts Partner,” said London. “The dancers are excited about this tremendous opportunity to perform in the heart of Miami at one of the most prestigious performing arts centers in the world. The hard work and steadfastness of the PLGDC dancers take us to new heights and we feel blessed to showcase our talent to new audiences each time.”
Spring Nights at the Arsht Center is the company’s second program of the season, which will feature an eclectic repertoire of original modern choreography including the neoclassical Carmen, culturally-reflective Africa Africa, and Caribbean-inspired Calypso Bachanale.
The performances follow a successful Spring Dance Showcase that took place at the Little Haiti Cultural Center on March 10, which was a collaborative effort between Peter London and Janet Eilber, artistic director of the Martha Graham Dance Company.
During the presentation hosted by chanteuse Nicole Henry, Martha Graham Dance Company stars Lloyd Knight and Mariya Dashkina Maddux performed the haunting Graham duet Conversation of Lovers while Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company muse LaMichael Leonard Jr. premiered an abstract piece he choreographed for the PLGDC dancers.
London’s choreography has received critical acclaim at Ailey’s Summer Sizzler at the City Corp Theater in New York, NWSA performances at the Gusman Theater, The Colony Theater, South Miami-Dade Cultural Center and at the International Dance Festival in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
