tayediggs_web.jpgThere was a collective gasp from the women in the audience when Taye Diggs appeared on the screen as Angela Bassett’s youthful love interest in How Stella Got Her Groove Back. He’s been taking their breath away ever since.

Diggs’ appearances in Brown Sugar and The Best Man only added to the endearment felt for the talented triple threat who got his start singing and dancing on Broadway.

The heart throb brings his vocal talents to Miami for a one man show on Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30. Diggs is billed as the big finale of the Spring performance series presented at Prelude By Barton G restaurant/supper club in the Ziff Ballet Opera House of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.

He was among the talented original cast of Rent along with Rosario Dawson, Jesse Martin, Adam Pascal and the woman who became his wife, Idina Menzel. That same year, Diggs scored rave reviews for his portrayal of Captain Davenport in A Soldier’s Play for which he earned a nomination for ‘Distinguished Performance’ from the Drama League.

For the past five years, he’s been appearing on the small screen on Thursday nights on the Shonda Rhimes-created Private Practice. Diggs plays Dr. Sam Bennett, for which he was honored as ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series’ at the 40th Annual NAACP Image Awards. Rhimes also created Grey’s Anatomy, from which Private Practice spun off.

The father of a 19-month old son also appeared in Wicked, Chicago in which he played Billy Flynn, and The Wild Party. His other big screen ventures included the movie version of Chicago, Equilibrium, and Basic, opposite Samuel J. Jackson and John Travolta.

Earlier films included The Way of the Gun, starring Benicio Del Toro, The Wood, and Just a Kiss, co-starring with Marisa Tomei and Kyra Sedgwick.

For his Miami performance, Diggs credits his wife and his age (he recently turned 40); both of which prompted him to step out of his comfort zone.
