Students from Booker T. Washington Senior High school in Overtown are to join celebrity chef Jamie Oliver to present the Overtown Cookbook on Friday. Oliver is in town for the South Beach Wine and Food Festival.

The project was started after a study was published in 2008 showing high mortality rates from cardiovascular disease in Overtown, a once vibrant community where Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole and other stars performed. The study also found many residents had limited access to health care.

The recipes include healthy twists on classics like barbecue chicken and bread pudding.
