In addition to winning the state high school football and basketball championships, its Wind Ensemble was the only band from Miami-Dade County to score a Superior Rating at this year’s Florida Bandmasters Association State Music Performance Assessment.

For its accomplishment, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara Jordan honored Miami Norland’s Wind Ensemble during the commission meeting at the Stephen P. Clark Center on June 5.

“Clearly, Miami Norland High School has had a lot to celebrate this school year,” said Commissioner Jordan. “There is a winning spirit throughout that school that I hope permeates throughout the next school year.”

For the past three years, Miami Norland’s band has received 15 consecutive Superior ratings in Marching, Jazz and Concert Band assessments on a district and state level.

“Miami Norland’s accomplishments could not have been possible without the leadership of its administration and strong faculty support,” said Commissioner Jordan in recognizing Principal Luis Solano, Band Director Darryl Baker and Assistant Band Director Harold Hankerson. “I’d say the Vikings band members who are graduating this year are truly leaving on a high note.”
