MADISON, Fla. (AP) _ North Florida officials say an armed man was shot and killed after pointing a gun at law enforcement.
Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart says a deputy and a Florida Highway Patrol trooper were dispatched Saturday morning to a ditch near an exit off Interstate 10 to check on a report of someone camping in a tent.
The officers identified themselves and asked the person to come out. Stewart says the man came out with a short-barreled shotgun and pointed it at the deputy. The man refused to drop the gun and the deputy shot him.
The man died at the scene in Madison, about 50 miles east of Tallahassee. Stewart called it “a justifiable shooting.''
The officers were not injured.
