bobby-powell_web.jpgWEST PALM BEACH — The Palm Beach County state Legislative Delegation is meeting to discuss the topic of Healthcare/Medicaid Expansion, on Monday, July 15, 6 – 7:30 p.m. The event is set for the Palm Beach County Government Center’s County Commission Chamber, 301 N. Olive Ave., sixth floor, West Palm Beach.

The nonpartisan, informational public hearing is considered a general discussion of an issue on the minds of many South Florida residents, and an opportunity for members of the legislative delegation to hear from their constituents.

The agenda calls for two presenters, both legislators, to present the Senate and House plans. Delegation aides say public comment will be included, with the usual three-minute time limit per person, based on comment forms filled out the day of the meeting. Due to time constraints, groups are asked to designate one person to speak on their behalf, to help ensure opportunity for everyone who wants to comment.

The newly formed Palm Beach Treasure Coast Healthcare Expansion Coalition, which includes members of such organizations of the Service Employees International Union, recently invited members of 26 community groups to share their stories and help create and execute a healthcare plan. Other interested groups include OCCUPY, which meets regularly at the Urban League of Palm Beach County to address issues of public concern.

Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation members include Reps. Mark Pafford, chair, who will deliver welcome remarks; Pat Rooney Jr., vice chair; Kevin Rader; Marilynn Magar; Dave Kerner; Bobby Powell Jr.; Bill Hager; Lori Berman; and Irving “Irv” Slosberg; also Sens. Joseph Abruzzo, Jeff Clemens, Joe Negron and Maria Sachs.
