DEERFIELD BEACH — JM Family Enterprises, Inc. recently raised $56,181 and collected 15,188 pounds of canned goods in its fourth annual companywide “Fall Fill-Up” food drive for 10 nonprofits across North America.
Associates at JM Family headquarters in Deerfield focused this year’s efforts on increasing its monetary contribution since food banks have access to groceries at a fraction of the price. As a result, Feeding South Florida (FSF) was presented with a check for $33,804.
As part of JM Family’s “What a Difference a Day Makes!” volunteer program, the company partners with FSF during the year through various food drives and sorting events, helping the organization battle South Florida’s alarming rise in hunger.
This year, the nonprofit has experienced a 39 percent increase of individuals and families who rely on food banks for food and other groceries.
JM Family’s “What a Difference a Day Makes!” is an ongoing initiative that focuses on a clearly defined need or issue and engages associates as volunteers. Since JM Family began its relationship with FSF in 2007, the company has sorted approximately 650,000 pounds of goods at the distribution center in Pembroke Pines.
“We cannot forget about those who do not know where their next meal will come from,” said Colin Brown, JM Family president and CEO. “Hunger doesn’t discriminate.
It affects many people — families with young children, those who are struggling to make ends meet and seniors living on a fixed income. Local non-profit organizations need our support to help feed the hungry in our community."
