MIAMI GARDENS — The city of Miami Gardens has announced that the seventh annual “Jazz in the Gardens” will be held March 17-18 at SunLife Stadium.
Since its inception, the music festival has grown, offering visitors a mix of genres including Jazz, R&B, Neo-soul and World Beat sounds.
The event has also attracted big name performers, including Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, John Legend, Robin Thicke, Wyclef Jean, Babyface, Kenny G., Frankie Beverly and Maze and Chaka Khan.
Organizers said the line-up of performers for 2012 has not yet been decided.
“I am elated about the success of ‘Jazz in the Gardens’ and I remember when no one knew anything about the event and now everyone has the desire to be involved,” said Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson, who created the fesival. She said the event “has become so much more than just a music festival.”
“It’s become a reunion point for friends and family, a source of economic opportunity for small and large businesses and a vacation destination for adults seeking a break from the winter cold.”
Organizers said the 2011 festival attracted more than 45,000 people.
For next year, the city has partnered with AEG Live to produce and showcase the event, hoping to make it a premiere festival in the country.
AEG Live is a leading concert promotion and touring company focused on all aspects of live entertainment.
Tickets will go on sale in December.
