MIAMI GARDENS — The Jackson Health System has joined forces with the Women’s Breast Health Initiative to help bring awareness to heart disease and breast cancer in underserved communities.
On Saturdays in March, volunteers are walking throughout various neighborhoods in Miami Gardens, knocking on doors to provide women with educational packages.
The package includes information on early detection guidelines for breast cancer and heart disease.
Uninsured and underserved women in Miami Gardens will also be encouraged to take action and book an appointment to get free cholesterol and hypertension screenings by Jackson clinicians, as well as free mammograms provided by Jackson’s digital mobile mammogram unit, which will be in Miami Gardens on the last Saturday of March.
Women who complete their screenings will also receive a bag of fresh fruits and vegetables and a healthy ideas recipe book donated by Bravo Supermarket.
The Women’s Breast Health Initiative is an outreach organization dedicated to educating women about the importance of breast and heart health.
This year, volunteers will knock on more than 10,000 doors in South Florida and help save a life – one household at a time.
