The Sickle Cell Foundation of Palm Beach County & the Treasure Coast hosted a June 16 discussion at Grace Episcopal Church.
in West Palm Beach featuring a panel representing several countries: from left, Mirline Clervoyant, Haiti; Marie Anderson, Jamaica; Demetria White, USA; and Karen Vieira, Barbados. The panelists shared their trials in living with the disease and their personal experiences regarding what works for them, from healthy, gluten-free diets to yoga to herbal supplements. They also fielded the audience’s questions on topics ranging from health insurance to personal savings plans. June 19 was chosen as the 3rd World Sickle Cell Day in recognition of the most frequent genetic disease worldwide, present in Africa, Asia, the Americas and southern Europe.
