Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival: The 8th Annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival comes to Markham Park, 16001 W. State Rd. 84 in Sunrise. Come for the jerk chicken (and jerk fritters, jerk ice cream, and other unexpected jerk delights). First Jamaican Woman Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller: Portia Simpson Miller, Jamaica’s first woman prime minister, will give a lecture at 6:30 p.m. at Florida International University’s South Campus in the Wertheim Performing Arts Center, 11200 SW 8th St. in Miami. Jazz Roots Concert with Buddy Guy, Dr. John and the Lower 911: The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 1300 Biscayne Blvd. in Miami, presents its popular concert series, Jazz Roots. This performance features Buddy Guy, a five-time Grammy winning blues legend. Guy’s unique, wailing electric guitar sound has influenced virtually every major blues and rock guitarist, from Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton to Stevie Ray Vaughan. 1000 Women In Prayer: Normally, people go to church to have fellowship and pray for their individual concerns. Dr. Rosalind Osgood Ministries International offers something more. The organization presents Morning Glory: 1000 women in White praying together for unity and peace in our communities. This free event invites all women of all cultures to come out and participate as a unified body with one mission, to improve their communities through prayer and engagement. Caregiver Experience: Recharge the Mind, Body & Spirit: Miami Jewish Health Systems and The Memory Center at Douglas Gardens kick-off Alzheimer’s Awareness Month with Embrace the Caregiver Experience: Recharge the Mind, Body & Spirit. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Miami Jewish Health System’s Miami campus, 5200 NE 2nd Avenue. This free event offers caregivers of patients with Alzheimer’s and related memory disorders a much-needed opportunity to focus on their own well being. Activities will include a celebratory brunch, acupuncture therapy demonstrations and aromatherapy experiences. Also included will be cooking and fitness tips along with special prizes throughout the day. Other events will include free memory screenings at The Memory Center at Douglas Gardens (November 9-13, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and a special screening of HBO’s documentary “The Alzheimer’s Project” on Nov. 10, 10 a.m. to noon. 2009 CBC Gospel Fest: ChristWay Baptist Church (CBC) presents its 2009 CBC Gospel Fest.
