ndy-family_web.jpgMIAMI GARDENS — The North Dade Youth and Family Coalition (NDYFC) is providing an opportunity for youths to take part in an afterschool program aimed at increasing their leadership ability and opening doors to community involvement. The Miami Gardens based organization is offering two separate afterschool programs, now open and accepting applications, for youth between the ages of 14-18.

The coalition’s Future Young Leaders (FYL) program is a community-level youth leadership program that cultivates natural leadership abilities and empowers youth to make positive changes in their communities through youth led projects.

The 10-month FYL program meets every Monday and focuses on the areas of personal growth, building resiliency, leadership development, community involvement, public policy and advocacy and computer technology. The program offers a combination of interactive workshops and field trips, and culminates with a youth-led public service community project presented to their peers.

The coalition also offers All 4 You, designed to reduce sexual risk behaviors associated with HIV, other sexually transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancy. The 12-week program includes workshops in Life Skills, Employability/Job Readiness Skills development and Community Service Outreach. Students also participate in free educational field trips.

Both programs offer an opportunity to gain community service hours that can be used towards high school graduation. Youth are provided with free transportation from their home school to the program site. Incentives are offered to participants as well.
