Friend Bob Leonard says Robinson was sincerely dedicated to equal rights.

Leonard is an 80-year-old fellow activist and lawyer who knew Robinson for more than 60 years.

He says whenever national civil rights figures visited Flint, they contacted Robinson.

In addition to organizing rallies and generating support for the movement, Robinson was instrumental in the 1968 passage of the fair housing ordinance. Its approval made Flint among the first cities to pass an open-housing referendum by popular vote.
