marijuan_web_2.jpgLAKE CITY, Fla. (AP) _ Police say they won't prosecute the case of a 3-year-old boy who took marijuana to his north Florida school, but child welfare officials are still investigating.

Columbia County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Ed Seifert says the drugs were found Monday when the boy showed it to a classmate who later told a teacher. The marijuana was in two small plastic bags with a combined weight of less than 20 grams.

Authorities searched the boy's home, but nothing illegal was found.

Seifert says the child is mentally disabled and wasn't able to tell authorities where or how he got the marijuana.

The case has been turned over to the Department of Children and Families to follow up and make sure the home is safe for the child.

The boy is back in school.
